Sometimes there are other plans for you that you just can't control. This week I’ve been a part of this and hence missed my weekly post.
Part of our living experience comes with the fact that we can’t control everything that occurs in our lives. There are some events where you just have to respond and change plans.
Even though this now puts more pressure on me to turn around more writing over a shorter time frame, and it compresses time for my other work, it also helps break routines which might have become too comfortable and mundane.
The forced changes to routines mean that we have to react and see how the dust settles and I’ve learnt over the years that it’s probably best to just observe this process.
So this week’s post will be short but to the point.
If uncontrollable events have forced you to react and break your routines then it's ok. Don’t let it stop you from continuing everything again in the future. Step back, observe how everything turns out and build up slowly again whilst it has all settled.
Being within this current experience this is how I am currently approaching it.
Presence:
Whatever it is which has forced you to stop what you are doing, accept it, don't fight it.
Experience this forced change and be present in it for yourself and those around you who are also going through it.
The ability to not get stressed, because you are either behind in work or you’ve broken your important routines that help you maintain good physical and mental health, is essential.
Finding presence and experiencing these moments is key. You never know, these moments could define the rest of your life.
Space:
With the new changes comes time and with time comes space. I’ve tried to give myself the space needed to process everything and deal with what's going on. If you don't do this now then it could have detrimental impacts on you further down the line.
I’ve made a conscious effort to do some longer walks to allow my mind to process and think through everything. I’ve focused on letting my mind wander and flow. I’ve removed any restrictions and let it play out scenarios.
Teamwork:
Luckily, I have my Mum and Sister to go through our experience together and it’s vitally important that we all trust and rely on each other to get through it.
The support and camaraderie mean that we have each other to talk through everything and we know we can trust each other to move forward.
Planning:
After a chaotic few days, I’ve started planning again how to get back into my routines and how to start re-introducing things into my life.
It might not be today or tomorrow but I am thinking about what I want to do again and how I want to feel with it all.
Life throws curveballs, and how we react dictates how we move forward. In these moments try not to get flustered, find presence and peace and move forward the best way you can do. Eventually, the dust settles again and we go back to our normal routines.
I am Will Flindall, host of the Valley of Outlaws Podcast where I speak to those who have decided to take control of their life and follow a passion or instinct.
If you feel like you could be getting more from your life, then maybe one of the conversations I’ve had with the Outlaws might help you kickstart a change.
Peace x
