Finding Balance

People feel dissatisfied with their lives because they have no balance which leads to little fulfilment. We work 5 days a week to have 2 days free.

Many people don't realise the importance of allocating time for themselves and balancing a giving-and-taking mentality.

Despite the successes of these rare few in society, they are not the norm and therefore should not be compared to others. They don't live a life of balance and end up being stuck in an endless cycle of seeking validation and success.

Finding balance within your life will allow you to grow in more ways than you think because it enables you to create the space you need to recover, refocus and restart.

Success isn't about what you earn, the house you live in or the car you drive. Success is about your connection to life, the people around you and how many lives you impact through a positive and giving mindset.

Be the person to intentionally use your spare time for you and grow every day. Growing for yourself will bring you more fulfilment because you'll become more aware and therefore less concerned about anything other than finding happiness and peace.

Here are a few routines you could implement which I used in my life to help me find more balance.

1 - Practise Gratitude

No matter how rough or smooth your journey is, find the time to practise gratitude and be aware of all the positive things going on in your life.

It is our perception that allows us to see the good and bad in life. Practising gratitude opens your mind to a more positive side of life.

It enables you to reflect and see everything that's great in your life.

Remember, there will always be a person who dreams of living the life you have.

2 - Personal routines

Setting personal goals, as well as career goals, is essential to finding balance. it means you won't feel like you've sacrificed one for the other.

We don't set enough time aside to do things we love. If we add more personal routines into our lives we can move forward on both fronts and feel like we are seeing progress.

Setting a morning and evening routine which is for you will allow you to feel like you are consciously looking after and listening to yourself.

3 - Create Space

How often do you just stop and do nothing but observe the physical world or close your eyes and listen to your thoughts?

There is so much going on in our lives with work, family, friends and technology that it is very hard to find the time when one or two of these don't distract you.

Creating space is vital to truly be able to hear your thoughts and what you want in your life.

Make sure when you do this you have no distractions, so find a quiet space with a view, or put yourself in a room where there is no technology.

4 - Decompress before you sleep

It is not healthy to go to bed thinking about work. Find the time to de-stress and let the thoughts of the day percolate through your mind.

I used to use the gym in the evenings to do this but now I’ve turned to meditation straight after work to allow my mind to process.

Don't go to sleep with a racing mind so find a routine that allows you to switch off, whether it’s reading, cooking, writing or just relaxing with your partner and watching a movie.

If you aren't relaxed in the evening you’ll struggle to sleep properly and therefore feel refreshed.

5 - Practise OQP

Only Quality People.

Surround yourself with others who motivate, inspire and encourage you and those who check in on you.

If your friends don't ask you the same amount of questions about your life as you do about theirs then consider who is serving who?

You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with, therefore curate your friendship circle and communicate only with those who have the best intentions for you.

This piece is not about discouraging those who want to dream big and change the world from doing it. This piece highlights the importance of having balance for you so that when you commit to something you have the awareness to build from a place of balance.

We all need something to dedicate our time to so we can learn, grow and experience life but doing that from an understanding of fullness might help you sustain and build bigger and greater without losing more elsewhere.
