The Art of Gratitude

Finding gratitude for the good things in your life can change how you see the world. It can open your eyes to start seeing all the positive elements of your life.

It is too easy for us only to see the negative elements of our lives especially when negativity rides through media and life so easily.

With this negativity it is straightforward to develop a mindset that believes we don't have enough, we don't deserve our dreams to come true and that things are not going right in our lives.

We need to change our perception from a place of lack to a place of gratitude to start making our dreams a reality and our lives more rewarding.

Once we understand how to grow from a place of gratitude we open the doors to a happier and more successful life that is better positioned to bring in everything we desire.

Science shows how adding gratitude changes the way we live our lives and opens us up to a greater way of living.

Gratitude can improve our health, relationships, friendships, mental well-being and careers.

How gratitude has helped me:

I started writing a gratitude journal in September 2022 and used it as a way to shift my perspective on my life.

I’d decided that I was fed up with seeing all the negativity in my life and believing all the stories I told myself as to why I wasn't where I wanted to be.

I intentionally started writing about all the things I was grateful for so that I would train my mind to start seeing only these.

Once you focus on looking for the positives more appear, as if they came in pairs. The truth is they were always there, but I was never able to see them until I changed the way I viewed things.

Below are the key areas in which it helped me evolve.

1 - Awareness

Writing down four things I was grateful for each day changed my perspective on my life and made me realise how far I’d come and how lucky I was.

Once you start thinking about the things you are grateful for you start to see a lot more of them and your awareness grows to the amazing moments and opportunities you have in your life.

The key is recognising that when you start looking for something then you can see it. If all you think of is negativity then that's all you will see. Flick a switch and start looking for the positives.

When we set out the dreams we want to achieve in our life for some reason we often forget a lot of them. Once we achieve those dreams we had from years back we overlook the importance they had to us at that time as we are focused on the next thing.

Writing down everything I was grateful for reminded me of a lot of older dreams I made but had forgotten. I was able to see how I’d accomplished these dreams and recognised the steps I’d made but not seen.

2 - Connection

Gaining awareness of the amazing things in your life allows you to connect with yourself further.

Once you start connecting with yourself you become more attuned to your mind and intuition. You can feel gratitude a lot more and connect with it.

The world can feel lighter as the more positivity you see the more relaxed you become. When you are relaxed you are more likely to feel and hear yourself and understand you.

Connection to yourself is the biggest strength to have as you know your boundaries and you are aware of how hard you need to push yourself further.

3 - Drive

It is like the dominos effect. Once you find one thing to the grateful for you find another. Once you see all these amazing things that have happened in your life more come in afterwards because you see the opportunities and you take them.

This boosts your drive because you are getting evidence from your own life that things are positive and moving forward.

This helps build momentum in a way that it harder to stop you from moving forward and your potential has further to grow.

4 - Growth

I’ve found that with more awareness towards everything I am achieving, combined with the more gratitude I show towards this progress, the more I am growing.

There are a few reasons for this. The first is my growth doesn't have to be huge for me to acknowledge it and therefore I am aware and grateful for all the small wins.

Secondly, I am braver because the more awareness I have of my progress, the more I am willing to take risks to push and grow further.

Your boundaries to what you thought were possible for yourself expand and you believe that there is more you can achieve in your life.

5 - Self Development

Gratitude evolves your mind and helps you find peace.

Once you start practising it regularly it enables you to see a clearer and more positive version of yourself and brings more confidence in your journey.

Gratitude enables you to slow and observe your life more and see where you are winning and where you can be winning more.

The discipline in itself of writing down 4 things you are grateful for should not be dismissed. You are showing commitment to you and building a positive image of yourself and your life.
